Victoria’s oldest and one of the best-loved National Parks – Wilsons Promontory National Park (or ‘The Prom’) is the southernmost point of mainland Australia covering over 50,000 hectares. It is home to more than 800 native plant species, 30 species of mammals and over 180 species of birds. Along with stunning coastal scenery, pristine wilderness and hidden coves and bays only reachable by foot or boat – the Prom is a wonderful place to discover on your next getaway.

A 90-minute drive from our Cape Paterson Holiday Park, set off early to make the most of this beautiful National Park.

Squeaky Beach

The famous white sands of Squeaky Beach is one of the parks most iconic locations. The rounded grains of quartz rub against each other every time you step making a squeaking sound, giving this popular local beach its name.

Pack a yummy picnic lunch and take a wander along the famous white sand or enjoy dip in the turquoise waters. For those who are after a short adventure, there is a 3.8km / 1.5-hour walk to Squeaky Beach via Tidal Overlook Walk starting at Lilly Pilly Gully carpark. This walk offers some of the best views of the Prom’s west coast!

The Big Drift

Named the Big Drift, this extensive series of sand dunes is pretty hidden from the main tourist track, and it’ll take you a bit of bush bashing to get there. Follow the path from the Stockyard campsite as it snakes through bushland until it reaches an open field. Your destination is well signposted, so follow the track as it undulates over a few hills until you get to a final, very steep sandy hill.

Once you reach the top, you’ll be greeted by a seemingly endless view of sand, punctuated by the occasional green treetop and ocean view. Don’t forget to bring your boogie board along so you can surf down the dunes!

Mount Oberon

The Mount Oberon Summit walk is one of the best in the park, offering stunning panoramic views over Tidal River and the nearby islands after climbing to a rocky summit. The walk is 3.4km long and is a little bit difficult, but the views can’t be beat. Try to time yourself so you can see the sunrise, it’s a sight to see!

Lilly Pilly Gully

For the perfect walk to start off your day in Wilson’s Prom, look no further than Lilly Pilly Gully. Stroll through the dense forest path underneath the shadow of Mt. Bishop and see how many birds you can spot in the myriad of nests and treetop perches; the track is a hot spot for many forms of feathered creatures.

Wander through the temperate rainforest on the boardwalk and listen to the tranquil gurgle of the creek that passes through it. This walk only takes an hour to complete, but it’s the most relaxing of any that can be taken in Wilson’s Prom.
